Fabulous Vintage Bob Jackson Reynolds 531 Tandem With Free Roof Carrier Monmouth

We bought this bespoke tandem in 1983 from Williams in Cheltenham who arranged its manufacture and build. It is built with Reynolds 531 and has it original paintwork and transfers.

Bob Jackson was the foremost tandem builder and the bike was built for us 5'9" and 5'4". Plenty of room to accommodate shorter/taller riders. It will be equivalent of 54/51 now.

We preferred this to the Jack Taylor design and build. We used it primarily for long distance touring and camping holidays. It is the most fabulous bike, there is nothing quite like it in full flow, even fully loaded. Recent summers we have taken it to Europe on cheap flights and this costs only the price of a solo! I changed the stem to a modern style and changed the double brake levers so that the rear hub is operated with a bar end shifter.

I have the original bars and brake levers if you prefer the original style. The cantilever brakes are good and stop well even fully loaded. The hub brake is powerful and I limited using it to long descents. The drivetrain is TA with a triple chainset.

The pilot has SPD/flat pedals - these are virtually new. I has been treasured and stored in dry garages.

It has a strong Blackburn rack. I have a Mirit roof carrier for it. This makes it very easy to load onto all roofbars. The chap who makes Helton carriers (see website) took on the design when the original maker died.

It really is very simple to load, only requiring an initial 60cm lift on a car. Call Abergavenny 821 881 to view.
